Motivation

Learning a second language is starting to be an important topic in every school I believe all around the world. It´s important for teachers to be motivated in order to motivate their students, if a teacher is not engaged they won´t have the expected outcomes.
Motivation is one of the most important factors in language learning. Students with a good attitude towards English are more likely to work hard and keep going when learning gets challenging.
So How do you motivate students? Well for me it´s been a job to look up for things that motivate my students so they can feel happy and recognized for their achievements. It´s definitely a different strategy for each teacher since the age, society, interests are different for each group of students. So it´s a teacher´s job to search their students goals and likes in life.
Students are self-motivated, others are less motivated and need a little push here or a lot. If you’re wondering how to motivate your students, you might automatically think of rewarding them for every step they take in the right direction, and applying negative consequences for steps they take in the wrong direction. In reality, the best approach is to go easy on the rewards and punishments and cultivate his internal motivation—help them to tune into the feelings of accomplishment and the pride they feel for a job well done.
It´s definitely important for students to be happy and motivated in class in order to have the expected results (learning and loving the language). A happy student makes an easy environment for teachers to work with.
Finding students motivation from an early age it´s a huge step towards students loving the language. Once they love it, it would get easier for teachers to teach it and have a great result. What´s better tan a student telling you: Teacher, English is my favorite class? Cool ha?! I love it when I hear that!! So please teachers every time you enter your classroom put a smile on you face and make students happy to start the class.

  1. That's true. We all have experienced through our lives the feeling of having a teacher who just cares for his/ her paycheck and forgets about the pupils under his/ her care. You feel disappointed and want the bell to ring as soon as class starts. But when a teacher truly cares for his/ her students, he/ she creates a nice atmosphere where students feel comfortable and motivated to learn.
    Thanks for sharing, Lupita!

  2. Yes, you’re right Lupita. I remember that at secondary school I had a teacher that always was smiling, he was so cool and his way to teach also, it was a complicated subject (physics) but everybody made an effort. On the other hand, when a teacher arrived to the classroom in a bad mood the environment got stressful and boring, there was no motivation and we only stayed there because of the responsibility.

    Important topic =)

  3. Totally agree with you!!! =D, many times we think that the group has difficulty learning the language, when it may be due to the lack of creativity and enthusiasm of the teacher, which causes the child to lose interest in the class.

I can't imagine a preschool teacher without energy and motivation in front of the group, it would be very complicated to achieve real learning in the child.

    Excellent topic !!!

  4. Yes Lupita! I totally agree with you! When I started working, I noticed my kids were not motivated enough, I tried one thing and another, when the whole time the solution was easy! I have to be motivated myself! Tried coming out of my comfor zone and being more enthusiastic and now they enjoy my class :).
